Derelict house to be replaced with four homes

Plans to replace a two storey derelict house with four modern homes has been given the go-ahead.

Applicants 8G Architects had sought permission to build three detached houses and a bungalow on the large plot on Bowring Road in Ramsey

The project would involve the demolition of the existing St Olave's House, which is not a registered building.

The applicant said work on the development would start in early 2025, and has been estimated to take about 18 months to complete.

The planning statement said that the houses would have a high quality design that would "make a positive contribution to the character of the area whilst preserving levels of amenity for nearby dwellings".

It described the large plot of land, which is situated adjacent to the banks of the Sulby River, as "clearly capable of accommodating residential development".

The developer added that the key constraints were providing an access to the properties that was "safe and visually acceptable", in addition to "the ability to develop the site whilst retaining the eucalyptus and sycamore trees close to the entrance".

A separate application has also been submitted by Fairway Construction Ltd to build three townhouses on the adjacent land along Jurby Road.

That application has not yet been considered by the planning committee.
