The main route between the Manx capital and the north of the island has reopened after being closed for survey work ahead of resurfacing next year.

The A18 Mountain Road was shut between the Brandywell Road and Creg ny Baa Back Road junctions until 16:30 GMT for the work to be carried out.

It is the first of several closures ahead of a project to resurface part of the TT course from the 33rd Milestone, near Windy Corner, and Kate’s Cottage to improve safety.

Monday’s planned closure had to be postponed because of high wind speeds on the Mountain Road.

Two more additional two-day daytime closures of the stretch later in December are also planned ahead of a month-long closure of sections of the road in the spring for resurfacing and other maintenance.
