Former police inspector to be town clerk

A former police inspector has been appointed to take up the role of town clerk for a a Manx northern local authority.

Derek Flint, who lived in area for 23 years before moving to the UK to lecture in policing and the law, will take up the role with Ramsey Commissioners on 6 January.

He will replace Tim Cowin who had held the position since January 2022 before stepping down earlier this year.

Mr Flint said, along with the board, he would work to "catalyse investment" for infrastructure in Ramsey, as well as work to attract businesses to the town.

He said he was "passionate about quality public service" and "making sure ratepayers see the value for money".

Acknowledging the role would "not be without its challenges", he said he would support the commissioners to make Ramsey a "great place to work and be based".

There was a lot to learn and he was looking forward to taking on the role, Mr Flint added.

Chairman of the local authority Robert Cowell said the appointment marked "an exciting new chapter" for the authority, which was "focused on addressing the key issues facing the town".
