Mountain Road re-opens after surveying works

A section of a main route from the north to the Manx capital has re-opened after it was shut for the continuation of surveying ahead of major refurbishment works.

The southern section of the A18 Mountain Road was closed from the Brandywell Road junction to the Creg ny Baa Back Road until 16:30 GMT.

The works are part of a road safety improvement programme that requires surveying works ahead of a month-long resurfacing project in the spring.

As well as the planned closure, the Department of Infrastructure said the Thot-y-Will Road to Sulby was closed for the removal of an "unsafe tree", which was ongoing.

Planned works went ahead on Monday, but a wider closure of the entire road was in place for the Department of Infrastructure to clear drainage channels following Storm Darragh.

Two more daily closures of the southern section of the route for surveying works during December are scheduled to take place on 16 to 17 December.

Last week, Monday's planned closure was postponed due to high winds, while the planned surveying works went ahead on Tuesday.
