Overnight road closures will take place on the M62 in West Yorkshire for eight weeks while resurfacing work takes place.

National Highways said repairs would be carried out between junction 25 (Clifton) and junction 24 (Ainley Top) from Monday.

All westbound lanes would be shut from 20:00 BST to 06:00 BST Monday to Friday, from 2 September to 6 September and again from 9 to 13 September, a spokesperson said.

The eastbound carriageway would be closed between the same times on weeknights from 16 to 19 September and from 23 to 28 September, they added.

National Highways said the junction 25 westbound entry slip road would be closed overnight from 6 to 7 September and from 13 to 14 September.

The junction 25 eastbound exit slip road would be closed from 19 to 21 September.

A spokesperson said a signed diversion would be in place along the A644, A6107 and A643.

Project manager Richard Burgess said: "As well making the road much smoother in this area, we’re replacing the joints on the eastern side of the bridge at junction 25. We’re also renewing road markings and studs."

Mr Burgess said the work was being carried out overnight "when traffic levels are lightest to minimise disruption".

He said drivers should not rely on satnavs and should allow extra time for their journeys and follow the signed diversions.

A series of further overnight closures in the area were planned from 2 to 30 October, National Highways said.
