Dangerous driving arrest after pursuit crash
A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a crash involving a car which was being pursued by police on a motorway in West Yorkshire.
A white Toyota Corolla being driven on the M62 was involved in a collision with a Peugeot 306 just before Junction 24 for Huddersfield at about 15:00 GMT on Saturday, West Yorkshire Police said.
The Peugeot 306 driver remained in hospital with serious injuries, the force said.
An 18-year-old woman who was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and theft of a motor vehicle had been interviewed and released under investigation, a force spokesperson said.
Three other females, two aged 17 and one aged 19, who were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, had been released on bail, they added.
West Yorkshire Police said a pursuit had been authorised after the driver of the Toyota had failed to stop for officers on the M621 as the car was being driven towards the M62 at Birstall.
The Toyota had been reported stolen from New York Street in Leeds on Friday, officers said.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct had been notified as was standard procedure for an incident of this nature, according to the West Yorkshire Police spokesperson.
