A scheme that hires out big bins in West Lindsey could be made permanent following feedback from residents.

The bins are up to six times bigger than a typical wheelie bin, and according to West Lindsey District Council are suitable for spring cleans and major clear-outs.

A report by the authority said hundreds were hired out and 95 per cent of customers left four or five-star reviews.

The report recommended the trial becomes permanent and a decision will be made on Tuesday.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, a total of 437 of the large bins were hired and 27 smaller ones over the year of the Big Bin Clear Out trial.

A 1,100-litre bin can be hired for a week for £60, and a 660-litre bin costs £50.

The council said the bins were suitable for a variety of household waste, including wood and plastic items, and were particularly useful for people who couldn't take waste to the tip.
