Skip hire company fined for illegal waste site

A skip hire company has been ordered to pay fines of £18,000 for operating a waste site without the necessary permissions.
Action Skip Hire Limited of Trent Street, Digbeth, was also ordered to pay court costs of more than £28,000 after it was found guilty of two offences and admitted a third.
The Environment Agency, which brought the prosecution, said the company had been using land off Oxford Street in Birmingham to illegally store and process waste.
On top of the fines, Birmingham Magistrates Court ordered the company to clear the site of waste by 7 October.
The court, which heard the case on Monday was told the company had been operating the site without the necessary environmental permit and then failed to comply with a notice to provide waste transfer notes.
The Environment Agency said it first visited the Oxford Street site in August 2023 and it found waste from construction and demolition, plus tyres, mattresses and wood.
Further visits were carried out in 2024 when the company failed to comply with a notice to remove the waste.
