Police officers have had a whip-round to restore festive cheer to a pensioner whose Christmas gifts were stolen during an overnight burglary.

The 79-year-old from Bilston, Wolverhampton, woke up on Tuesday to find her home had been broken in to.

The thieves took presents the woman had wrapped ready to give to friends and family.

West Midlands Police's Wolverhampton Partnerships Team arranged an office collection to buy chocolates, wine and biscuits to replace the lost items.

Officers delivered the parcel on Tuesday afternoon, with crime prevention tools to help secure her property and make her feel safe.

Police are investigating the burglary, with officers conducting inquiries in the local area.
