Plea for old phones and laptops for schools

An appeal has been made for old and unused technology which can be put back into use for school pupils and residents in Wolverhampton.

Wolves Tech Aid, an organisation led by the city council, accepts laptops, tablets, mobile phones and desktop computers.

More than 1,600 devices have been recycled since the not-for-profit project began in 2021 and about 900 have gone to more than 17 schools.

All personal data is wiped before the donated kit is redistributed, the council said.

People can donate devices by dropping them off with staff at any city library and councillor Obaida Ahmed said items did not have to be in pristine condition.

Even if they cannot be recycled, the parts can be used to refurbish other pieces, she added.

"We will make sure they are quickly put to good use," Ahmed said.
