'He inspired a generation to believe in Scottish independence'

The first minister of Scotland had said his former colleague, Alex Salmond, left a “fundamental footprint” on Scottish politics.

Mr Salmond died at the age of 69 on Saturday after giving a speech in Macedonia.

Both Swinney and Salmond have led the SNP twice.
