'NHS needs fewer managers, more nurses'

Scottish taxpayers' money will be spent on "the nurses and doctors, not the bureaucrats and the penpushers", according to Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar.

In his speech to the party's conference in Glasgow, he said instead of a system that puts health boards and their managers first, his party would put patients first.

He said the NHS was in crisis due to successive SNP governments failing to ensure it was fit for the future.

"As first minister I will do whatever it takes to fix our NHS," he said.
