Be in no doubt, the cap will be scrapped - Robison

The two-child cap on benefits will be scrapped, the Scottish Finance Secretary has said.

Announcing the draft budget at Holyrood, Shona Robison said the Scottish government's first priority is tackling child poverty and said it would be 2026 before any payments would be made to families.

She said Westminster’s co-operation would be required to fully mitigate the cap which affects 15,000 children in Scotland.

The two-child cap prevents parents from claiming universal credit or child tax credit for a third child, with a few exemptions; and was introduced by the Conservative UK government in 2017.
