Watch: How my family celebrate Lunar New Year
BBC weather presenter Sabrina Lee explains what Lunar New Year is and why many people around the world will be celebrating it.
Each year takes its name from one of 12 Zodiac animals, with the Year of the Snake beginning on Wednesday.
While the exact date of the Lunar New Year changes each year, it usually takes place between 21 January and 20 February, on the date of the first new moon.
Sabrina says children look forward to receiving red money packets.
Food is also a big part of the celebrations, with a spread of symbolic dishes enjoyed as families come together.
