Plans to fill gap in Victorian promenade
Plans for a modern apartment block on an empty plot of land on a seaside promenade have been put forward.
Company 8G Architects is seeking to purchase the land on Ramsey’s Mooragh Promenade to build a six-storey building containing 12 flats.
The homes, on a plot between North Shore Road and Hope Street, would be two and three-bedroom and have associated parking spaces.
Applicant Gareth Roberts said it was a “perfect opportunity to infill a gap in the row of old Victorian apartments” on the “under-used land” in the northern town.
Mr Roberts said there was strong demand for housing in that part of Ramsey, with any apartments that were put on the market in the area of Moorgah Promenade being “snapped up”.
In addition to that, he noted that the existing Victorian-era apartments on the promenade often had issues with damp and high running costs.
In an accompanying planning statement the company said it was "not a case of simply trying to recreate the architecture" of the of the adjacent buildings, but rather to "fuse the best elements of 19th Century proportion and scale with a modern sensibility".
‘Overall, it is considered that the design proposed represents a modern interpretation of Victorian architecture, reflecting the detailing and the vertical proportions of the terraces in the along the Promenade," the application added.
