Teenage entrepreneurs get their own festive fair

A Christmas market with a difference is being held in Kent on Saturday.

The event, at The Centre in Margate, is dedicated to the work of teenagers.

It follows a similar market that took place in the town in July.

It is being run by the national organisation The Teenage Market, in partnership with Thanet District Council.

It will feature stalls selling home-made jewellery, crafts and vintage clothing, as well as performances by local musicians.

Founded by brothers Tom and Joe Barratt when they were teenagers, the first event in the UK took place in Stockport in 2012, with markets now happening in locations around the country.

Joe Barratt said: “Having seen the impact that our events have made on the lives of young people, I’m delighted that Thanet District Council is giving young people a free platform to get their businesses off the ground and showcase their creative talents.”

Ruth Duckworth, cabinet member for regeneration and growth, said: “The Festive Market will be bigger and better than the summer event, with an increased number of stalls.

“The young people will have put in a lot of hard work designing their stall and creating products to sell. This is also an opportunity to support your high street, pick up some Christmas gifts and explore what local businesses have to offer.”
