Plans have been lodged for a 58-home social housing scheme near to the M1 in Leicestershire.

East Midlands Housing has earmarked about 4.9 acres (two hectares) of land, off Wardens Walk in Leicester Forest East, for the development.

Documents submitted to Blaby District Council said the motorway was on the western edge of the proposed site but separated from it by an "extensive" barrier of trees and a lane.

The developer said it wanted to demolish a number of former farm buildings to make way for a mixture of social rented and shared ownership homes.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service said the latest plans followed the granting of outline planning permission for the scheme in November 2023.

Road access to the site would be from Wardens Walk, currently a cul-de-sac.

East Midlands Housing said it had consulted residents and a "relatively small" number of comments were received about traffic concerns, access through Warden's Walk, and noise mitigation for the new housing.

A statement, submitted by the developer, said the scheme would help to address a "strong demand for additional affordable homes" in the area and have "significant social benefits".

A decision is expected to be made on the plans by early April.
