An Elton John tribute act will be on hand to provide entertainment as a council team seeks views about an open space near a high street.

Wolverhampton City Council is seeking views on the site near Bilston High Street and will be setting up a stand near the Horse and Jockey pub when the Christmas lights are switched on on Friday.

It aims to gather feedback on proposals put forward to improve Bilston High Street Link.

The council said its team would be joined by Ultimate Elton, who is involved in the lights switch-on, and would be available for requests and selfies while visitors viewed plans.

The Bilston High Street Link is the open space that connects a leisure centre and wider Urban Village development to the town centre.

“It’s an ideal opportunity to invite people to give their feedback about another exciting development," said Councillor Chris Burden, cabinet member for city development, skills and jobs.

Ultimate Elton will switch the Christmas lights on with the Mayor of Wolverhampton Councillor Linda Leach, and Santa.

Amy Whitehouse, Bilston business improvement district manager, said: “We are very pleased that City of Wolverhampton Council has chosen this magical event to talk to residents across Bilston.

"They’ll be close to Santa’s Grotto and the Christmas Tree, so they are easy to find.”

Ms Whitehouse added: “Bilston Christmas Lights switch-on is always a fun event that draws a crowd with entertainment and a great opportunity to get Christmas shopping under way.”

The consultation can also be completed online and runs until 31 December.
