The latest phase of work has begun to improve safety on one of England's most dangerous roads.

The A529 between Hinstock and Audlem near Market Drayton was named by the government in a top 50 list of blackspots, opening the way for funding for improvements.

Crews are now fitting new street lights in Hinstock, along with footway improvements connecting Moat House Gardens with Damson Way.

Shropshire Council said the work was expected to be completed by the end of October.

The improvements are part of a government funded Safer Roads package, which has also seen traffic calming, improvements to a zebra crossing and other road improvements.

A 20mph speed limit has also been introduced in the centre of the village, following a consultation in 2022 on the improvements to be carried out.

Shropshire Council said it expected the full programme to be completed by Easter.
