Independent brewery sold to investment firm
An independent real ale brewery has been bought by an investment firm, it has been announced.
The assets of Purity Brewing Co, which is based in Alcester, Warwickshire, have been acquired by the Breal Group for an undisclosed sum.
Breal said the move "will secure the long-term future of the business and is set to help retain jobs within the brewery".
Purity Brewing Co, which also runs a bar and kitchen in Birmingham city centre, welcomed the move and said it had "felt the pressure of rising costs".
It is known for making products such as Mad Goose IPA, Longhorn IPA and Lawless Lager at its farm-based brewery.
"We all know the brewing industry has had a turbulent time of late, and like many others, the business has certainly felt the pressure of rising costs," said John Hunt, managing director at Purity Brewery.
"However, we’re incredibly pleased Breal recognises the value and uniqueness of our offering and had the vision to invest in securing the future of the brewery."
Breal, whose portfolio includes Black Sheep Brewery, said the deal underlined its commitment to the industry.
