Homes evacuated after gas leak
A gas leak has forced 14 homes to be evacuated in a Warwickshire town.
People were asked to leave their homes in Evesham Street, Alcester, on Tuesday after a smell of gas was reported to Cadent.
The gas company said the leak had been fixed but operatives would stay on site until residents returned home.
Dave Tucker said he returned home on Tuesday evening to find "blue flashing lights and emergency vehicles on the street".
"The leak was causing quite a bit of disruption in and around the town.
"It's a bit chaotic to say the least.
"A lot of these properties are very old."
Craig Hansbury, head of customer operations for Cadent in the West Midlands, said the homes were evacuated for "safety reasons".
"We have now repaired the main, and residents are able to return to their homes," he said.
"We will remain on site until everyone is settled in, carrying out final readings and safety checks."
