Children from 13 schools in East Yorkshire have made 1,000 cards for veterans ahead of Remembrance Sunday.

The Postcards for Veterans project, which was set up three years ago, aims to involve younger generations and include veterans who are unable to attend services.

Ian Dean, from the Royal British Legion, collected cards from St Anne’s School and Sixth Form College in Hessle on Friday, and said it was an “emotional” but “fantastic” experience.

Some of the cards would be sent to serving personnel across the world to show appreciation for what they do, he said.

Several schools in East Yorkshire have taken part in the Postcards for Veterans project

Emma Hardy, MP for Hull West and Haltemprice, said: “It’s important that those ex-servicemen and women who are unable to attend services feel involved in Remembrance Day and it's equally as important that younger generations reflect upon and understand what our veterans have gone through.”

“The whole project has been an amazing example of the community spirit which runs deeply here."
