Police increase patrols to combat drink-driving
Philip Toscano/PA WireOfficers will be increasing patrols in St Helier and conducting road checks across Jersey over Christmas, States police say.
The added the police presence aimed to combat drink driving, after 111 "drunk in charge" (DIC) offences were recorded this year up until 15 October.
The force said there were 118 recorded DICs in 2023.
Insp Lawrence Courtness said police "must continue to reiterate the message that getting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol is not acceptable."
He added: "Alcohol affects everybody’s ability to drive safely and it simply isn’t worth the risk.
"Plan ahead, get a lift, leave your car overnight, or catch the bus."
Officers along with honorary police colleagues would be carrying out the extra patrols during December to tackle drivers who had been drinking and driving either that same day, or the morning after, officers said.
States of Jersey Police also reminded the public to drink safely and responsibly.
Insp David Turnbull said: “This festive season, let’s make an extra effort to look out for each other.
"If you see someone in distress or in need of assistance, offer help or contact us,.
"It could make a significant difference in ensuring that individual has a safe and joyous holiday."
