Police are keen to speak to two people who came to the injured man's aid near the Hardy Monument

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after another man was attacked at a popular National Trust beauty spot.

Dorset Police said the attack happened in the area of the Hardy Monument in Portesham, near Dorchester, on Saturday shortly before 14:00 BST.

The victim, aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital with a suspected stab wound and cuts.

The force said a man, aged in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in the Weymouth area shortly after the attack. He has since been released on police bail as investigations continue.

Police are keen to speak to the two members of the public who came to the injured man's aid and anyone who witnessed the attack.

The force added that the arrested man was known to the victim. His injuries are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.
