Concerts to go ahead following single objection

A series of big concerts at Derby's Markeaton Park will go ahead after a licensing hearing was held because of a single noise objection.

Stars including Jess Glynne and Faithless will perform at Derby Summer Sessions 2025 in front of up to 10,000 people in July.

But a resident lodged an objection and called for the music events to end at 8pm instead of 11pm.

Councillors on Derby City Council's licensing committee granted Live Nation (Music) UK Ltd a licence with conditions.

In a written objection to the council, the resident said: "I live 10 to 15 minutes away from the park, and during the summer the noise from the park carried considerably.

"The noise is very loud (louder than I would play music in my own house) and to have it until 11pm is too late (bearing in mind construction noise needs to be ended by 6pm).

"I would like the council to consider declining the licence completely or, if the licence is granted, to have that end at a suitable time (e.g. 8pm) so as to avoid disturbing local residents' sleep/evening wind-down time."

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the meeting heard the objector tried to call a dedicated event telephone number during the concerts last year, but the call was not answered.

Organisers Live Nation (Music) UK Ltd said it would ensure the telephone hotline was staffed at all times during licensable hours - which is part of the licensing conditions.
