Drivers have been warned there will be three weeks of road closures on a busy route in Derby in order to build new cycle lanes and pedestrian crossings.

The city council has said the latest phase of works on Derby Road in Spondon will see a stretch closed overnight between the Asda and Raynesway roundabouts from 12 January.

The closure will be in place from 22:00 to 06:00 GMT Sunday to Friday, with the road remaining open on Saturday night "where possible".

Council transport bosses say both roundabouts will remain open but diversions will be implemented.

'Daytime disruption'

A signed diversion will be in place for through traffic along the A52, via Pentagon Island and Nottingham Road.

The junctions for Aspen Drive and Asda will also be affected, the council said.

Access to Asda will be subject to "some daytime disruption" with traffic being diverted via Aspen Drive.

Resurfacing will commence on Nottingham Road shortly after the completion of the Derby Road works.

Councillor Carmel Swan, cabinet member for transport, said: "I appreciate that these works may be disruptive, but we have worked hard with contractors to make sure that access is maintained wherever possible and disruption is kept to a minimum."
