Getaway car injures member of the public

A member of the public was injured after being dragged along by a car driving away from the scene of a shop theft, police said.

Two people targeted Co-op in Kegworth’s Market Place on Wednesday to steal items, said Leicestershire Police, before being challenged by bystanders.

As the pair left the scene in an uninsured car without a valid MOT certificate, one person was “dragged along” before falling to the ground, leaving them with injuries.

The force’s Valley beat team said two people were detained a short while later and had been charged.

One was charged with shop theft, while a second faces charges of shop theft, driving without insurance, driving without an MOT and dangerous driving.

Both have been remanded into custody due to outstanding warrants.
