Public views sought over £18m countryside plan

Residents and visitors are being asked to share their views on the future of two of Staffordshire’s well-known outdoor destinations as part of an £18m investment plan.

The money will be spent on attracting more visitors and improving facilities at Cannock Chase and Chasewater, as well as the Staffordshire Way, Staffordshire County Council previously said.

Long-term plans include redeveloping visitor hubs at Cannock and relaunching the 92-mile Staffordshire Way.

People can take part in an online survey or provide feedback at Cannock Chase and Chasewater over the next week, the council said.

The council announced the plans last month and said it hoped the improvements would celebrate Staffordshire’s rich heritage while balancing recreation and nature conservation.

“Cannock Chase and Chasewater are such important parts of Staffordshire’s natural beauty, and we want to make sure they stay protected while continuing to meet the needs of the people who use them," cabinet member for communities and culture Victoria Wilson said.

“Whether you’re a local resident or a visitor, your input will help us to shape their future, so these spaces can be enjoyed by everyone for years to come."
