Police say the small handgun was capable of causing serious harm

A teenage boy has pleaded guilty to the possession of a firearm and ammunition following an incident in Stoke-on-Trent last year.

The 17-year-old from Cannock, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday.

Officers stopped a Fiat Punto in Weston Coyney on 24 June following reports it was being driven erratically, Staffordshire Police said.

The force recovered a small handgun and bullets from a cavity inside the driver's door, as well as a machete and a BB gun.

Det Sgt Marc Proctor said: "This weapon was capable of causing serious harm and has rightfully been taken off our streets through some proactive policing work in the local community."

The court remanded the teenager until a sentencing hearing on 19 February.
