A beer-lover from the Black Country is sharing his passion for pubs, saying it's all about the atmosphere and the ale on tap.

David Broadbent, aka Disco Dave, from West Bromwich launched his Disco Dave's Pub Reviews channel on YouTube in August 2024, after some of his friends began travel reviews and he decided he would like to do something similar.

His moniker was acquired while travelling around Australia in the early 2000s, and he even uses it to introduce himself in job interviews.

He told BBC Radio WM that before he started his channel he asked himself what he was passionate about - and pubs were the first thing that came to mind.

"I thought to myself 'I love going to the pub, it will be fun'," he explained.

"I'll go and review everything about the pub."

Dave has reviewed about 30 establishments so far across Birmingham and the Black Country, including Wolverhampton.

But the 56-year-old has also gone slightly further afield for some of his reviews, including the Valkyrie Bar in Evesham, Worcestershire.

In his reviews, he tries to cover everything about a pub, from the food, layout and entertainment, and in some cases, the jukebox offering.

"It's all subjective of course," he added.

"I go to the pub for my reasons but other people go to the pub for different reasons."

Disco Dave aims to review one pub a week and often finds them on social media.

He explained The Beacon Hotel in Sedgley was the best boozer he had been to, after discovering it through "infiltrating" a local Facebook group.

"It was fantastic," he said. "For real ale drinkers you have to go... the beers are absolutely incredible, the staff were lovely."

Other notable establishments include the Bacchus Bar in Birmingham city centre, which Dave described as the "best kept secret in the Midlands".

"You only ever find out about it if someone takes you there," he said. "It's just a lovely setting.

"On a first date I would always target the Bacchus Bar. It's so nice. Even if she's not impressed with me, she'll be impressed with the pub."
