A village pub that was forced to shut after an external wall collapsed is to be rebuilt.

The Crown in Winterborne Stickland, Dorset, closed for eight months after the gable end wall crumbled in March 2024.

It partially reopened in December but a structural investigation found the wall had "many historical defects and deficiencies".

Dorset Council has agreed for the missing section to be rebuilt, with work expected to take about nine months.

Parish councillors at Winterborne Stickland backed the planning proposal, saying they looked forward to seeing The Crown fully reopened.

Owner Admirals Taverns said it needed to rebuild the entire gable end wall and chimney on the Grade II listed building, which dates back to the 18th Century.

The new wall will be finished with render to match the existing exterior.
