A very small island off Guernsey is set host its own strong man competition.

The first ever Herm's Strongest will take place with eight different weight divisions for participants.

Event organiser Cal Page said he had plans to utilise the island's harbour front.

Speaking to BBC Radio Guernsey, he said: "It's hard to visualise, there's not room there. But the way it's going to be laid out is going to work for the first competition."

'Heavy work'

The competition is due to be comprised of four events and eight weight divisions.

Event number one was due to be a tie dead lift, which Mr Page described as a "deadlift with ties on the bar".

Event number two would see participants take part in a log press, he said.

The third event would utilise a piece of equipment known as Conan's wheel, he said, seeing contestants carrying a weight on a long bar that rotated around a pivot point.

And the final event had been named the Hercules Hold, which Mr Page said would see contestants "spread eagled and [having] to hold the weight on either arm".

He said: "Hopefully everyone is going to be OK as it's going to be heavy work."

Discussing his reasons for bringing the competition to Herm, Mr Page said: "I competed in Guernsey's Strongest Man in September and had such a good time that I wanted to bring it to this island.

"My friend Mark tried to bring it here but it never really took off.

"Hopefully I can carry on his strong work and we'll get it over here."

Mr Page said 28 people had already signed up to the event but that he was pushing for 50 participants.
