Homes in Doncaster without water due to power cut

Homes and businesses in parts of Doncaster were without water for several hours on Wednesday due to a power cut.

The DN2, DN3, DN4 and DN5 areas of the city were all affected during the afternoon and into the evening, with supplies eventually starting to be restored at about 19:35 GMT, according to Yorkshire Water.

A statement on the firm's website said: "We've managed to restore power to the site and we're in the process of restarting our treatment works and gradually filling the water pipes back up.

"Your water supply won't be immediately back on as it takes us a few hours to get the pressure in the system back to normal."

A spokesperson had earlier apologised for the disruption and said that once the problem was resolved, water might be "cloudy or discoloured" for a while, but it could be cleared by running the tap for a few minutes.

"We understand how inconvenient supply interruptions can be and we'd like to thank our customers for their patience," they said.

The company had been "working with Northern Powergrid on site to restore power and supply to customers as quickly as possible", they added.

Two pubs, the Eden Arms and the Cumberland, posted on Facebook that they had been forced to close for the evening due to the disruption to the water supply.
