Ambulance service appeals for volunteers

An ambulance service is calling for people to volunteer to help its frontline teams.

The appeal has been made by South East Coast Ambulance Service (Secamb), which covers Sussex, Kent, Surrey and north-east Hampshire.

The Community Resilience Support Volunteers will mainly drive one of the trust's welfare vehicles, serve drinks to colleagues, and help deliver equipment.

Sue Orchard, Secamb community resilience manager, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for caring, compassionate members of the community."

Applicants must be over 18, have a UK driving licence and live within 30-minutes of the trust's ambulance bases in Medway, Brighton, Chichester or Banstead.

Volunteers are expected to work a minimum of five hours a month and commit to a two-year term.

Ms Orchard said the role "will make a real difference to colleagues and patients every shift".

Applications closes on 10 December.
