Major roads closed after collisions and flooding

Motorists face disruption after two major roads were closed following collisions.

In Hertfordshire, the A1(M) is closed between junction one for South Mimms and junction three, for Hatfield, following a "serious" collision, according to updates from National Highways.

In a separate incident, the A421 in Bedfordshire is closed in both directions between the A6 and junction 13 of the M1 following a collision and flooding following heavy rainfall.

Diversions are in place and emergency services are at the scene of both closures, which were announced at about 09:00 BST.

Bedfordshire Police said that the A421 closure was "likely to take substantial time to clear the incident and remove excess water" and asked drivers to find alternative routes.
