MP criticises 'shambles' of roadworks near A3
A Surrey MP has criticised roadworks at a roundabout off the A3, describing traffic issues in the area as a "shambles".
The Conservative MP for Runnymede and Weybridge, Ben Spencer, said traffic was a problem around the Painshill roundabout on the A245 in Cobham.
Works are being done as part of the larger project at junction 10 of the M25 and the A3 near Wisley.
National Highways apologised and said the main slip road off the A3 northbound would stay closed until the end of November.
Dr Spencer told BBC Radio Surrey: "It is an ongoing problem and I think it is an absolute shambles and a disgrace what has been happening."
He said lane closures and changes to road layout made earlier in the year had impacted on people getting children to their exams and were continuing to cause issues for families getting to and from Feltonfleet School.
Residents were "tearing their hair out", the MP added.
As a measure to improve traffic flow on the A245, the A3 slip road was closed from the northbound carriageway.
Dr Spencer, who is the shadow minister for science, innovation and technology, said: "The A3 M25 works and improvements are going to make a big difference to the safety of the junction and to traffic locally.
"But we have to be able to survive while that work is being done."
A National Highways spokesperson said: "To ease traffic flow in the area, we've also changed the sequencing of the traffic signals on all sides of the Painshill roundabout to favour the flow eastbound on the A245.
"We apologise for the inconvenience this is causing."
