Man charged over hit-and-run death as victim named

A man has been charged after a woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Dudley.

Police have named the victim as 27-year-old Salma Rafique, who was struck by a car on a pedestrian crossing on Thorns Road, Quarry Bank, near Brierley Hill.

Tyrone Moran, 19, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving over the collision, on 29 September 2023.

Mr Moran, from Oldwinsford, is due to appear before Wolverhampton Crown Court later.

Ms Rafique sustained serious injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene.

West Midlands Police reported at the time that the car was found abandoned nearby after the crash and the driver of the vehicle went to a police station and was detained.
