The States of Jersey Fire and Rescue Service has launched a home safety check tool which will enable people to carry out fire risk assessments.

The online tool takes information gathered from a householder and uses it to create an action plan giving tips to keep the user's home fire safe.

Residents using the feature will be asked for information about their property.

The answers help generate advice that can be referred to at any time.

Station Commander Mark Bailey-Walker said: "This new resource will allow anyone to get free access to fire safety advice in their own time.

"It has been designed to be used by either the home occupant directly, a third party who may have concerns about an occupant's welfare/safety, or simply to help us directly with home visits."

He added: "Not only will this tool help us give vital fire safety advice to those we can't give a visit to but the information provided will highlight any vulnerable people who we might have struggled to reach or not been aware of from our data."
