Warning from fire service after dog rescue

The fire service in Jersey has issued a warning after a dog was rescued from one of the island's cliffs.

A spokesperson for the service described the rescue as "wonderful" but said crews had been left with "hearts in our mouths".

It comes after a video showed a volunteer help the stranded dog from a narrow ledge at Les Landes.

Fire teams said the person had taken a "significant risk" in trying to rescue the dog with "no safety equipment whatsoever".

The spokesperson said: "We don't want to put a damper on this occasion, but we also don't want someone else to take it upon themselves to conduct a similar rescue in future and get hurt or killed.

"This event could very easily have become a human rescue too."

They urged anyone in a similar situation to call 999.
