Holocaust Memorial Day marked in Alderney service

Members of the public and church leaders came together to mark Holocaust Memorial Day on Alderney on Saturday morning.

The service at the Hammond Memorial remembered the six million Jews who died in World War Two and all other victims of genocide.

Tribute was paid to the estimated 400 prisoners who died in the island's Nazi concentration camp, Lager Sylt.

Bishop Michael Langrish said ethnic cleansing was still happening.

"People talk of the Holocaust as if it's in the past... but holocaust, ethnic cleansing, threats to community and culture, they are real today," he said.
