Two-week-old long eared owlet rescued in Sark

Guernsey's animal shelter has taken in its first long eared owlet.

The owlet was discovered with "no nest or parents" in Sark and brought to the GSPCA for care.

The animal charity said the baby owl was approximately two weeks of age when it was found on 15 May and had received "around the clock" care since its arrival.

Yvonne Chauvel, from the GSPCA, said: "We did have an adult bird in from Sark that we got back to the wild in 2016."

GSPCA manager Steve Byrne said: "We see quite a few barn owls each year and occasional other species but never have we had a long eared owl chick."
