Powerlifting champion defends title after illness
A former Royal Marine has successfully defended his British Classic Bench Press Championship title less than a year after being diagnosed with bowel cancer.
Ram Patten, from Frome, Somerset, won the competition last year before his diagnosis which led to him undergoing life-saving surgery.
Just four months ago he was barely able to walk to his garden gate but after returning to training he retained his title in Cardiff.
"I think the body is just phenomenal - it tells you when its ready," he said.
