Woman calls 999 to say her ex admitted murder

Listen to a 999 caller describe how her former partner admitted he had murdered someone.

Tracey Thompson tells the call handler that Richard Jones told her in a text message that he had murdered his son's girlfriend, Sophie Evans.

Dyfed-Powys Police officers later found Ms Evans' body lying face down and naked on the kitchen floor of a house in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, on 5 July 2024. She was attacked and strangled.

Jones, 50, from Burry Port, Carmarthenshire, was sentenced to life in prison - serving a minimum of 20 years - after being found guilty of murder at Swansea Crown Court in January.

Ms Thompson also told the call handler Jones had a history of saying "weird stuff" due to mental health problems.

"We weren't sure if he was telling the truth or not but obviously we can't take the risk," she added in recording released to the public following Jones' sentencing.
