Peak District parking 'most chaotic I've seen'

A cyclist has shared his experience of coming across "irresponsibly" parked cars in the Peak District.

Valerio Stuart was cycling near tourist hotspot Mam Tor on Saturday when he encountered long stretches of parked cars blocking the road.

The 37-year-old, originally from Italy but currently living in Manchester, was out training in Derbyshire for a 1,300km (807 miles) bike ride next month to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

"I couldn't believe what I was seeing," he said. "It was really selfish. The irresponsible parking had transformed two-way roads into single narrow lanes."

Derbyshire Police said they closed some roads on Sunday afternoon because of "poor parking".

The closures follow reports of "about 200" parked cars blocking gritting lorries and emergency services trying to respond to an injured walker near Edale on Saturday.
