Moment HGV driver mounts kerb and hits pedestrian

This is the moment a HGV driver swerved across a road, mounted the kerb and hit a 67-year-old pedestrian.

Glen Brady, from Tan Y Braich, Gwynedd, was driving the lorry along the A527 Biddulph Road, towards Congleton, Cheshire, at about 13:40 GMT on 17 December 2024 when he became distracted by his satellite navigation system.

Despite being struck by the vehicle, the pedestrian sustained minor injuries, Cheshire Police said.

Brady, 47, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving at Crewe Magistrates' Court and was handed a 24-week sentence suspended for 12 months.

He was also banned from driving for 18 months and must complete an extended driving test before he is allowed to get behind the wheel again.

PC James Shrimpton, of the force's roads and crime team, said: "I hope this case makes other motorists think very carefully about their actions behind the wheel.

"Due to the nature of Glen Brady's driving and the sheer size of the vehicle itself, we could have quite easily been dealing with much more serious, or even fatal, injuries."
