Archive: Tony Martin convicted of killing burglar

Archive footage of how the BBC reported the conviction of Tony Martin - who shot dead a teenage intruder in his home in 1999.

Martin, who was jailed in 2000 for the murder of 16-year-old Fred Barras at his Norfolk farmhouse, died on Sunday aged 80 after suffering a stroke a few months ago.

He was also found guilty of injuring another man in the same incident. Martin was released from prison in 2003, after his murder conviction was reduced to manslaughter.

A BBC Look East report showed him arriving at Norwich Crown Court under a blanket in the back of a police car, and a statement being read on behalf of the Barras family after the verdict.
