Keeping sea shanties alive through a kids' choir
Young people are connecting with their seafaring heritage, thanks to a modern sea shanty group.
The Saltburn Smugglers formed in 2022 and perform a mixture of old maritime songs alongside their own compositions.
As well as selling out venues on a regular basis, demand from families has pushed them to form children's choirs.
Founder Keith Ayling says it is an opportunity for the next generation to carry on the tradition of storytelling via seaside folk music.
