'Sepsis symptom recognition must improve'

Healthcare staff should receive sepsis training and the recognition of symptoms of sepsis needs to improve dramatically, the parents of a student who died of the condition have said.

Bethan James should have been admitted long before she died, Richard Booth KC, the barrister representing the family of Bethan James said, speaking on behalf of her parents.

"As a family, we hope that this will never happen to another family," he said.

But for that to be the case, healthcare staff need to admit their mistakes so that lessons can be learned, the statement added.
