Whooping cough cases sharply increase in Wales

Cases of whooping cough have risen sharply in Wales during the first month of 2024.

There have been 135 notified cases so far in January, compared with about 200 in the whole of 2023.

Public Health Wales expert Dr Chris Johnson said it appeared to be the start of a relatively large wave.

Pregnant women and the parents of babies and young children are being urged to ensure they are vaccinated against the bacterial infection.

The BBC spoke to parents in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, to hear their thoughts.
