Assaults on Glider staff are 'scary' says worker

Mervyn Adair, who works on Belfast's Glider bus service has described being physically attacked a number of times at work.

In one incident he was punched in the jaw and needed time off to recover.

He has called for tougher sentences after two assaults on him resulted in custodial sentences of three months.

The Lady Chief Justice's Office told BBC News NI it could not comment on individual cases but where "such an offence is inflicted upon a victim who is providing a service to the public this is taken into account by the court as an aggravating factor".

In 2023, there were 28 physical assaults on Glider staff, up from 19 in 2022.
